Legislative Updates for Grandfamilies

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of grandfamilies throughout the State of Maine and the Legislative Task Force on Kinship Families, we are pleased to announce that LD 170 has been signed into law by the Governor.  Thank you to everyone who stepped forward to share their stories and encouraged their legislators to support this bill!

LD170 extends the maximum perios of time for a Power of Attorney for a minor or incapacitated adult from 6 to 12 months.  This bill also authorizes a Probate Court to order transition arrangements in the best interest of the child when issuing, modifying, or terminating a guardianship.
